Latest Fiction

God, You Should Have Seen Me

Eric stood in the doorway of the apartment. There was still time to change his mind. He could walk away now, and go back to his previous life. To follow through now with his plan seemed impossibly difficult, yet it also was an opportunity, a crossing point to become a new person. He could change himself and do something meaningful with his life, for once.

After waiting there at the door a few minutes, he knocked. A few moments later, the door opened slowly, as if with some effort. Looking up at him was a shriveled little woman with glasses, gray, tiny eyes and a tight mouth. Eric looked down at her. She leaned slightly to the left, as if intentionally trying to look casual. Her left arm rested in a curl and the arm of wheel chair, fist clenched tightly, right arm bulky with muscles. Two thin legs poked beneath a pair of blue jeans. Her glasses hid much of her face.

—Well, are you just going to stand there?
—Uh..
—Eric Skinner?
—Yes. How are you?
—Are you just going to stand there and stare at me or are you going to come in?
